If you are about to come to China for business or official activities, the direct barriers you will encounter may be neither language barrier nor or diet or climate differences, but business etiquette rooted in different culture soils. This DVD called Chinese Business Etiquette is designed for overcoming barriers of cross-cultural communication.

The cover of Chinese Business Etiquette
Chinese Business Etiquette consists of five DVDs with one topic for each DVD, namely Fundamental Commons, Business Activities and Meeting, Daily Behaviors, Communication Skills and Interpersonal Relations. It contains 34 episodes with about 10 minutes for each episode. Each episode features a given topic, such as Riding a Car with Others, Making Introductions, Making and Receiving Compliments, Gift Giving and Receiving, etc. These topics present either a communicative function or an activity scene covering all aspects of business activities. You can either learn all topics according to the given sequence, or find a related topic according to the table of contents to learn some relevant information and business etiquette when you are in a specific situation.
Each episode features a host guiding you to learn all aspects of the topic step by step. The host Xiaohua Zhou is the president and chief trainer of Chinese-Western Huitong (Beijing) Co., Ltd and international educational counselor of UNESCO dedicated to the research and training on the cross-cultural communication between the East and the West for many years. She has a comprehensive and profound understanding on the characteristics and differences of Eastern and Western cultures, so she can fully and quickly understand the psychology of foreign learners and give clear and incisive answers to learners.
In addition to the lecture, each episode features interviews with foreigners with rich work experiences in China. The interviewees are either experts on cross-cultural communication (such as Alan Babington-Smith, Director of Leadership Management International) or senior managers of China-based foreign-funded enterprises (such as Paul Nelson, Internet Explorer Lead Program Manager, Microsoft), who have a profound understanding and personal experiences about the barriers in the Chinese-Western cross-cultural communication. These interviews give a precise and dimensional illustration and explanation to Chinese business etiquettes from the perspective of learners.
It is worthy to state that the DVDs are in English to avoid a barrier for expression and understanding in terms of language. Both the moderator and interviewees speak English to help English-speaking learners have a better understanding of the contents in the DVDs. Of course, all DVDs introduce some commonly used Chinese expressions or titles in business activities to help the audience learn some practical Chinese sentences.(By Zheng Wei) |
