The Scarlet Sleeve is a long novel that takes women as the predominant protagonists. The story, told in a series of flashbacks, centers around an auction deal amounting to nearly 100 million Chinese dollars. Various characters one by one appear on the scene, and about ten young and beautiful, wise and resourceful women hobnob with the powerful and the rich, forming a unique sight in the world of politics and business. Though the whole book presents a world of the women, it actually depicts a battlefield for the men.
Author Profile
Fu Shi, originally named Hu Gang, established an auction company of which he was the legal person. He accumulated a wealth of nearly ten million Chinese dollars in a very short time. At the end of 2003, a big case came to light in the province where he lived, which involved more than ten judges including the chief judge of the Provincial Higher People's Court. He barely escaped a sentence himself. While there was nothing for him to do in custody, he began to write novels. His first novel "Celadon" won the "National Outstanding Bestseller Award" and he became a representative of contemporary financial novels.
