Contents Briefing
This is an excellent textbook series for beginners to study Chinese. The series was compiled by Tan Jiahua, who teaches in the Golden Bridge Institute. The institute, established in 1995, is a language and culture school located in Los Angeles, USA and has considerable experience in Chinese teaching. In Chinese Phonetic Notation, the titles of family members and personal pronouns are used as the main carriers for the initials (consonants) and finals (vowels) in Chinese pronunciation because most of the initials (consonants) and finals (vowels) in Chinese words can be found in these titles and pronouns. Each Chinese word that the students are asked to read aloud is accompanied by an illustration and a corresponding English word, which are selected from American textbooks used in the kindergartens to the second grade primary school class. All the sentences appearing in Practical Spoken Chinese are the ones most frequently used by students in daily life. The Purpose of the series is to train and develop the student's ability of listening, speaking and reading. Rolling-teaching method is applied with the same points repeated many times to deepen impression. Plenty of illustrations are provided.
