Wang Meng (1934- ) is a native of Nanpi (Hebei). After 1949, he successively served as deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League in Dongsi District of Beijing, deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League in state-owned 738 Factory, cadre of Xinjiang Provincial Literary Federation, deputy head of Second Team in Yili Bayandai Hongqi Commune, writer of Beijing Provincial Literary Federation, Editor-in-chief of People's Literature, Deputy Secretary of Party Group and Executive Vice-President of Chinese Writers Association, Minister of Culture, Member of 12th session and 13th session of the CPC Central Committee and Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee. He has began to create novel Long Live Youth since 1955 and started literary career, and join Chinese Writers Association in 1979. His works include saga novels (Long Live Youth, Activity Changes Human Form, Season for Love, Hesitant Season, The Embarrassing Joy, Green Fox; novellas (Bu Li, Butterfly, Difficulty in Seeing, The Legend of A Famous Doctor Liang Youzhi); short stories (A Young Man in Organization Department, The Most Valuable, Lobbyists, Heart of Young Grass, Voice of Spring, Streamer of Flying Kite, Eye of Night, Dreams of Sea and Series of In Yili). His works have a total of more than 10 million Chinese characters. The Most Valuable, Heart of Young Grass and Voice of Spring won the National Award for Best Short Story in 1978, 1979 and 1980. Butterfly and Difficulty in Seeing won the first and the second National Excellent Novella Award. Emotions for Visiting Soviet won the third National Award for Best Reportage. His works have translated into more than 20 languages, including English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Norwegian, Swiss and Dutch, and so on. He ever won Italian Mondello Prize for Literature and Japanese Soka Gakkai Peace and Culture Award. He is honorary doctorate of Far East Institute of the Russian Academy and an honorary member of Jordan Writers Association.
