Established in the year of 1981 at the beginning of China's reform and opening to the outside, FCPH not only possesses a whole team of politically reliable, professionally strong and academically distinguished editors, but has also enlisted a large number of celebrated writers.

Never hesitating to be a pioneer in China is the most prominent feature of FCPH.

It was FCPH that first published "Selected Works of Shen Congwen" and "Selected Works of Yu Dafu" when these writers were still labeled as "bourgeoisies" at the beginning of China's reform and opening up. It was FCPH that published the highly humanitarian novel "Oh, Humanity" when humanism was still taboos in China. It was FCPH that first introduced a large number of works by writers from Hong Kong and Taiwan when exchanges between mainland China and these regions were carried out cautiously. It was FCPH that first published "The Best of 20th Century Foreign Literature" series when translations of foreign literature were still focuses on classics and works by modern and contemporary foreign writers were rarely introduced. FCPH was almost always associated with the popularity that appeared in China's literary world and publishing circle, of avant-garde works, obscure poems, Qian Chongshu, and the prime version of "A Dream of Red Mansion" edited by Cheng Weiyuan.

In the late 1990s when writers and their works cropped up in China, bringing about a continuous flow of crazes, it was again FCPH that took discerning eyes to discover the much-neglected Wang Xiaobo. The publication of his "Time Trilogy" greatly helped mainland Chinese to know, read and study Wang Xiaobo's works. The ensuing series of works such as "Translated Works by Writers in Exile", "A Library of Works by Contemporary Chinese Thinkers", "Kenneth Pai's Works"," Li Bihua's Works", "Li Hui's Works" and "Andre Gide's Works" all caused great stirs among the cultural and readers' circles in China. The complete translation of Jean-Henri Fabre's "Souvernirs Entomologiques" fulfilled a dream of such great literary masters as Lu Xun, and marked a successful close of nearly a century of translation and introduction of "Soucenirs Cntomologiques" by China's cultural and publishing circles.

FCPH also pioneered in running magazines and making these magazines a ground for nurturing writers. This has remained a good example of success. "Huacheng Bimonthly" ranks among the top four major literary magazines in China, while "suibi" (Essays and Sketches) has been regarded as "'Dushu' magazine tops northern China as 'Suibi' does in the south". A large number of established writers active in China today started their career from these two magazines.

FCPH not only has discerning eyes to discover "new writers" by encouraging and nurturing generations of writers and literati, the publish in house itself is full of creativity and integrity. At the beginning of the new century, in the face of ever-intensifying competition of the book market, FVPH is taking preventive measures to counter this by restructuring its orientation and strengthening further development on the one hand, and on their other hand putting in great efforts in the compilation and popularization of guidance teaching materials so as to expand the variety of its products and constantly upgrade its economic strength.

All this has enabled us to reach where we are step by step, despite all the ups and downs, and will lead us to a brighter future.
