Wen Xiaofan, deputy general manager of China Publishing Group Digital Media Co. Ltd introduced about CBI website's launch of a new edition.
The reporter learnt from the 6th Working Conference of the Working Party of "China Book International" program that "China Book International" magazine, the only comprehensive English magazine in China's publishing industry to promote China's publishing industry, Chinese publications and Chinese publishers to the outside world, had changed from a quarterly magazine to a bi-monthly one. Bilingual (English/Chinese) website CBI's launch of a new edition has made progress in the phasal sense, which signified the overall upgrading of the promotion media of "China Book International" program.
Ai Limin, director of Information Center of GAPP and president of "China Book International" magazine said, the magazine has published articles with 1.5 million Chinese words, more than 4,000 photos, and has established up to 20 columns over three years since its founding, which has become the exchange platform for China's publishing industry to go internationally, display image and realize information communication. For the purpose of further meeting ever-increasing demand of Chinese publishers to do overseas promotion and ever-increasing needs of foreign counterparts to know about China's publishing industry, "China Book International" magazine begins to change edition from a quarterly magazine to a bi-monthly one starting from 2010, published at the end of each even-number month. The bi-monthly magazine is printed on lightweight paper, with contents being increased instead of being reduced, and columns such as Publishers, Chinese Literary Critics and Service Platform have been added. As introduced by Ai Limin, the magazine will make changes in its distributors' list. Members of "China Book International" program can add foreign business partners' list as the magazine's target distributors' list according to their own business needs, in order to further expand distribution areas of the magazine, and improve accuracy rate of distribution.
Nearly 1,000 pieces of news and 400 pieces of people's profiles were edited, compiled and translated by CBI website last year, meanwhile, the website's launch of a new edition was initiated, aiming to better cater to the access and reading habits of foreigners. Wen Xiaofan, deputy general manager of China Publishing Group Digital Media Co Ltd, told the reporter that the website has undergone improvements in four areas: a broad width website style has replaced a narrow width one; more pages are devoted to the introduction in French, German, Russian, and Spainish; new columns (sub-columns) have been established, including Special-themed Activities, Achievements, Copyright Statistics, Publishers, Culture, etc; new interactive functions have been added, such as book reviews, book abstracts, and supply & demand service. It's introduced that CBI website has started the development of commercial functions so as to realize sound development, and is also making efforts to launch the commercial functions soon, aiming at providing e-books' paid reading and download services, and also building itself into a national-level digital publishing base.
