The sixth meeting of working group of the “China Books International” Program, which was jointly sponsored by State Council Information Office and General Administration of Press and Publication, and organized by Time Publishing & Media Group Co., Ltd, was held in Hefei on March 25, 2010. Over 100 people from the publishing industry over the country attended the meeting to discuss the important issues of “going abroad”.
Wu Wei, deputy director of the third bureau of State Council Information Office made report at the meeting of implementation situation of the “China Books International” Program in 2009, and brought forward the working opinions for this year.
According to Wu Wei, in 2009, be confronted with complex and severe international conditions, Chinese publishing industry grew based on unfavorable factors as a whole under the background of continual tackling key problems of enterprise-oriented restructuring. The industry registered total output of over RMB1 trillion, making new breakthrough in “going abroad”.
Wu Wei reviewed the work of working group in 2009 from 5 aspects. With book export and copyright licensing making new record, the improvement in outbound copyright licensing exerted the leading role in “going abroad” of Chinese publishing industry. Cooperated publishing and overseas direct publishing obtained favorable achievements, with 109 projects of cooperated publishing implemented in the whole year. China Book International website (www.chinabookinternational.cn) and issued in new edition CBI magazine will satisfy the ever-growing information need in Chinese publishing by foreign users. Success was gotten in inviting international renowned authors to write China-subjected books. “The translation and publication projects of Chinese cultural works” was implemented in all round way and progressed smoothly.
As emphasized by Wu Wei, in 2010, we should continue to implement the “China Books International” Program and “the translation and publication projects of Chinese cultural works”, and specially focus on enhancing quality. We will broaden thoughts, invite more international renowned authors to write China-subjected books, and attach great importance to the feedback of “going abroad” of Chinese books. And lastly, we will intensify promotion and expand the international influence of Chinese books.
Wu Wei pointed out that, in the Report on the Work of the Government delivered by Premier Wen in the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference recently concluded, reinforcement of culture construction is ranked one of the 8 main tasks for 2010. As a practitioner in culture industry, we should come up to all expectations of the people, and work hard to contribute to the objective of being a country with powerful culture.
