People who have read Choice and Rise: the Dangerous Situation of China in the International Game usually consider the book as overturning traditional world trading viewpoints and development strategies. The biggest characteristic of this book is its narration, which insists that national interest must have precedence. The narration sets up a fresh perspective for the book, as well as provides a unique view to Chinese enterprises on how to take their place in the world. For instance, the law of comparative advantage and the theory on international division of labour are mainstream opinions that are widely accepted. But the author indicates from the perception of the international game on interests that the so-called comparative interest and international division of labour are: to ask undeveloped countries to stay undeveloped developed countries to stay developed, and developing countries to consider staying undeveloped as making use of their advantages.

Thus, this book is to reassess the developing mode and ponder the future developing route of China.
The author’s concerns are on how China should develop; how the Chinese nation, enterprises and individual investors defend true wealth. The author indicates clearly that China should follow an independent and autonomous developing route, protect itself and be export oriented. China should never make full use of its advantages through staying undeveloped, nor lose goods or wealth. As the author says to summarize the book,"China should pursue development using its own material resources."

The book contains a deep understanding on the world economic and financial system, an intensive and careful analysis and prediction on the American financial system and strategies and an analysis on the financial crisis in America, which offers a reference to Chinese enterprises and investors to enter the world and get close to America.
