Penguin Acquired Global Copyrights of Wang Xiaofang's Novel

UK-based Penguin Group recently signed an agreement with the Chinese writer Wang Xiaofang to acquire the global copyright of his new work The Civil Servant's Notebook, and sets out to promote it worldwide in multiple languages including English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and Arabic. The Chinese edition of the book is published by Writers' Publishing House in China. As one of the world's largest general book publisher, Penguin Group has published the works by Agatha Christie, known as the Queen of Detective Novels, as well as A Farewell to Arms, Ulysses, and Lady Chatterley's Lover, etc.

Beijing Office Director by Wang Xiaofang has once set a record circulation of 2 million copies. The Civil Servant's Notebook, with its profound literary attainment and unique literary style, has been favored by Penguin Group. Jo Lusby, General Manager of Penguin China said, "We chose this title because of it's fascinating insight into a world that is largely invisible to western readers, and moreover using a narrative style and tradition that is familiar to readers of quality English language literature. Literary techniques, such as multiple first person narrators, show an intricate literary style that makes Wang Xiaofang stand out among Chinese writers. Through this unusual, clever and sensitively executed narrative style, the reader is able to gain an objective judgment on the characters and the situations that they represent, allowing the reader truly to travel inside the minds of people in the East, who live life completely different to the people in the West."
