Press Conference on the 17th BIBF Held in Beijing

The 17th BIBF will be held in Aug. 30-Sept. 3 in the China International Exhibition Center. A press conference on the BIBF was held on June 24 in Beijing. Chen Yingming, deputy director-general, Department of Foreign Exchange and Cooperation, GAPP, Wu Jiangjiang, president of China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation (CNPIEC) and representatives of India, the Guest of Honor, presented at the press conference.

Wu Jiangjiang introduced about basic information and highlights of BIBF 2010: firstly, to display the latest scientific achievements and concepts in the digital publishing; secondly, to enhance the internationalization level, which include constant enrichment and improvement of BIBF's Guest of Honor program, upgrading of BIBF's website, improvement of the fair's service, and creation of brand names for content-oriented conference; thirdly, to push forward China publishing "going abroad" through authors' activities and Chinese-learning activities.

It's learnt that the 17th BIBF is jointly sponsored by GAPP (National Copyright Administration of China), Information Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science & Technology, the Ministry of Culture, Beijing Municipal People's Government, Publishers' Association of China, and Chinese Writers' Association, and is organized by CNPIEC subordinated to China Publishing Group Corporation.

With an exhibition area of 43,000 square meters, the fair offers more than 2,000 exhibition stands, 85% of which having been sold. Among the exhibition stands reserved, there are 706 domestic exhibition stands, increased 6% as compared to the same period last year, 489 overseas exhibition stands (including Taiwan and Hong Kong), increased slightly over the previous year, and 505 exhibition stands in professional exhibition zone; So far, nearly 2,000 exhibitors from 56 countries and regions, of which there are more than 1,000 overseas exhibitors (including Hong Kong and Macau), have registered for the participation in the fair. Among the exhibitors there are many well-known international publishing groups such as Pearson, Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer, HarperCollins, and Springer Group.
 
Besides Beijing International Copyright Forum of BIBF 2010 held in the late May, several key events will be held during this fair:

Beijing International Publishing Forum 2010 will be held in Radisson SAS Hotel Beijing on Aug. 29.

The opening ceremony of the BIBF 2010 will be taken place on the public square in front of the Hall 1 of the China International Exhibition Center at 9 a.m. on Aug. 30.
 
It's learnt at the press conference that the Exhibition Zone for  "China Book International" Program will continuously be set up at the fair to further push forward China publishing "go abroad."
