The Symposium on Compilation and Publication of Daoist Canon of China (thread-bound edition) & Presentation Ceremony of Daoist Canon of China (thread-bound edition), sponsored by Chinese Taoist Association, was held in Great Hall of the People on 8 August. Xu Jialu, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Zhu Weiqun, vice-minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Zuo'an, director of State Administration for Religious Affairs, attended the presentation ceremony.
In the presentation ceremony, Master Ren Farong, president of Chinese Taoist Association, presented two sets of Daoist Canon of China (thread-bound edition) with NO.1 and NO.2 labeled to the National Library of China (NLC). Chen Li, NLC deputy director, received the presentation and addressed a speech on behalf of the NLC. In his speech, Chen Li said that the NLC was a national repository of publications, assuming the responsibilities of collecting and preserving the nation's publications and inheriting civilization especially Chinese excellent cultural heritage. Daoist Canon of China was not only the important Daoist classic, but also the important part of Chinese traditional culture. The NLC's collection of Daoist Canon of China made the public read it conveniently in the NLC, as well as made it well preserved, which was of great significance for Chinese civilization inheritance.
Daoist Canon of China had 60 cases with more than 5600 volumes. 200 sets were published in all, presenting to famous temples, libraries, universities and related research institutes in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and foreign countries.
