On Aug. 9, General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) held a meeting in Beijing to coordinate China's participation in key international book events scheduled between the latter half of this year and early next year: the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), the Frankfurt Book Fair and Cairo International Book Fair (at which China will be the Country of Honor). Wu Shulin, Vice Administrator, GAPP presented and delivered speech.
Wu Shulin stressed that we should endeavor to show the achievements in the development of China's publishing industry, promote international copyright trade and build the world's ideological and cultural exchange platform through the participation in the international book fairs. In the process of exhibition at the fair, various Chinese publishing entities should especially pay attention to learn new experiences about the international publishing industry, track new trends of the international publishing industry, and know new technologies and new advances in the international publishing industry from the professional perspectives, so as to improve the foreign exchange and cooperation level of China's publishing industry.
The meeting was hosted by Zhang Fuhai, Director General, Department of Foreign Exchange and Cooperation, GAPP. As introduced by Zhang, the BIBF will be held from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3, with the participation of more than 2,000 exhibitors at home and abroad, and India will be the Country of Honor this year. New innovative measures to be taken at this year's fair include the newly establishment of the Area for the Achievement of China's Publication Going Abroad, Chinese Writers' Pavilion, and the Exhibition Area for Chinese Language International Teaching Resources etc. The Frankfurt International Book Fair will be held from Oct. 6 to Oct. 10, and China has begun to organize delegation to participate in the fair. China will be the Country of Honor at the Cairo International Book Fair from Jan. 26 to Feb. 6, 2011, which is the first time at an international book fair in the Arab world, and is of vital significance for the expansion of publishing exchanges and cooperation between China and the Arab world.
