The 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly was held in Gothenburg, Sweden from 10 August 2010 to 15 August 2010. During the conference, Zhan Furui, secretary of the CPC committee of the NLC and executive deputy director of the NLC, Makoto Nagao, director of National Diet Library, Japan, and Mo Cheol-Min, director of National Library of Korea, signed the Planning Agreement on Digital Libraries of China, Japan and Korea at the noon of 10 August.
The signing of the agreement marked that China, Japan and Korea had made new progress in the cooperation on digital library development. The National Libraries of China, Japan and Korea would take this opportunity to establish more close relationship, share experiences and information, and promote the cooperation and development of metadata standardization, information service integration, and long-term preservation and utilization of digital resources.
Through integrating the information in the Internet, this project would help people in China, Japan and Korea understand the culture and scientific achievements of one another, and provide abundant multilingual and diverse culture information, so as to promote academic research.
